Where to Stay in Charleston: Hotel Bennett
I truly was counting down the days until this stay, y’all! I couldn’t wait to finally visit the absolutely stunning Hotel Bennett located in the perfect spot downtown on King Street. Hotel Bennett opened just last year and is the definition of luxury in the Lowcountry. It’s 179 rooms and suites are super relaxing and dressed to the nines with custom furnishing and locally-inspired art. Want to take a virtual tour of Hotel Bennett’s lobby? Check out a video I shared on Instagram during my stay here.
It was super important to me before committing to stay at Hotel Bennett that the hotel was and is taking the most precautions they can during COVID19 to ensure their guests are safe at all times. In fact, I felt nothing but safe during my entire stay. I never once saw a guest not wearing a mask, including their incredibly friendly staff. There were hand sanitizer stations all throughout the lobby and I was offered my own personal hand sanitizer and mask upon check-in. If you absolutely must travel during this time, Hotel Bennett is definitely worth considering!
Now for the rooms (scroll down to take a peek at mine!). Let’s just say I never wanted to leave. When I walked into the room, I was greeted with such a warm welcome made up of colorful macarons and the prettiest pink Camellias Cake. I had the best night’s sleep in my big cozy bed and treated myself to a much-needed soak in my room’s bathtub because how often do you get to completely unplug from the world?! I put on a Christmas movie to watch directly from my tub and escaped for just one second. I 10/10 recommend having a tub in each hotel room moving forward.
WHERE TO EAT
One of the best things about Hotel Bennett is that it has absolutely amazing restaurants and bars located directly in the hotel, so you don’t have to go far to experience the best of Charleston’s eats. I’ve personally been to all four of them and had nothing but great experiences at each. Check them out below and even if you are local to Charleston and not staying at Hotel Bennett or just passing through, all four are worth a visit!
Gabrielle: I’ve dined with Gabrielle a few times now and have never been disappointed! In my past visits, I’ve had the House Potato Gnocchi, Roasted Acorn Squash, and the Braised Farro Piccolo – all so amazing. During my stay this time, my friend and I munched on the lounge’s Cheese and Charcuterie Board and sipped on some festive cocktails to start the night.
Camellias: Whenever I have friends or family in town visiting, I always recommend they visit the beautiful Camellias. This champagne bar is a pink lover’s dream, so, of course, I fit right in. This was my third or fourth time visiting Camellias, where we had a nightcap after our dinner right across the way at Gabrielle. I can’t recommend this place anymore!
Fiat Lux: Looking for a spot to grab drinks with a view? You’ve come to the right place. This view is surely one you’ll never forget. Not to mention, they’ve got some pretty yummy cocktails, too!
La Pâtisserie: Last but not least is the lovely coffee and pastry shop that is La Pâtisserie. If I had to do a round-up of my favorite coffee shops in Charleston, La Pâtisserie would definitely be on the list. This Instagram-worthy spot has French vibes that are unlike any other around town. And, of course, the strong coffee and flaky croissants are a plus, too. The Executive Pastry Chef, Remy Funfrock, even made this insane centerpiece out of purely chocolate for the holidays (see below and to the right). 48 pounds of chocolate was used to craft this beauty that welcomes you as you walk through the hotel.
There’s nothing like taking a quick staycation and playing tourist in your own city. If you are considering visiting Charleston and want the full, luxurious experience, or just want to get away for a night or two right down the street, put Hotel Bennett at the top of your list. It’s definitely an experience you’ll never forget. Thank you, Hotel Bennett, for hosting me and I can’t wait to visit again soon!
