Hard to believe it, but I’ve been living in Charleston for almost a year now! Moving to the Lowcountry was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The city is so welcoming and so are the people! While I was living in New York, I wrote a blog post about why I love NYC. Now that it’s my one year anniversary here in Charleston, I decided to do the same for quite a different city that I love. It’s hard to narrow it down to only 5 reasons, but here are my top few!
- First on the list, of course, the food here is amazing! This was one of the main reasons I loved New York but didn’t have to give up being a foodie when I moved back to the south. There are always new restaurants popping up around town and always something new to try!
- The opportunities for photos are endless! I can’t lie, this is a plus for us bloggers, but regardless, driving around and seeing all of the bright-colored houses always makes me so happy! I can’t wait to have one of my own and paint it a beautiful and fun pastel color.
- There are so many great things within driving distance. We live on James Island and we are only 3 miles from the beach! We’re an easy 20-minute drive (if even) from downtown. Getting around town is a breeze (unless it’s raining, that’s a different story!). Savannah, Hilton Head, and Myrtle Beach are also just a quick drive away and perfect for day trips!
- You’ll never get bored in Charleston. Whether you’re going to the farmer’s market on Sunday, going for a bike ride by the battery, taking a tour of one of the many historic sites, or spending the day at the beach, there’s always something to do!
- Charleston is my happy place. Yes, everything is a bit slower here than New York, but it’s also much calmer and kinder. Even on our rainy days, a rainy day in Charleston is still a day in Charleston.
Still don’t believe me that Charleston is the best place ever?! Take Travel + Leisure’s word as it was voted the number 1 US city for the 6th year in a row!
