A Weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee
I’m rounding out my last recap of my June travels with my Knoxville recap! Knoxville is a city I didn’t know much about prior to my visit. All I knew was that this was a college town… and that’s about it! And yet, I left the town already thinking “when can I come back again?” In addition to the beautiful buildings and homes, I couldn’t believe how much culture and diversity the town had to offer. So many good food options, attractions, and very friendly locals! You can also tell this is definitely a town for music lovers! The one thing I wish we could’ve done was get outdoors and see the mountains or take a boat out on the Tennessee River… but I guess that just means I’ll have to come back again soon! Preferably in the fall to see all of the beautiful foliage! Check out all the details on our weekend trip below!
WHERE WE STAYED
The Tennessean Hotel: There are many different places to stay in Knoxville, but the Tennessean Hotel is by far the best in my opinion. This beautifully decorated hotel is just walking distance from shops and restaurants and right next to the World’s Fair Park. If you need to go somewhere that’s not a quick stroll, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle, which we fully took advantage of! Every time we went in and out of the hotel, I was greeted by the staff who were always eager to assist with any recommendations or directions, which was nice as we were first time visitors. The hotel truly embraces it’s luxury hotel title and really makes you feel special throughout your entire stay! The Tennessean also has a restaurant located directly in the hotel called The Drawing Room that uses local ingredients to create a lovely breakfast and dinner.
As for our accommodations, I was instantly wowed when I stepped in to our room and saw the cool Knoxville map headboard and the floor to ceiling windows with a lovely view of downtown. The room felt so comfy but also clean, fresh, and modern (with great lighting!). During our second day of the trip, it started pouring and all we could think about was cozying back up in our beds for a nap (which we did!). I would definitely recommend staying here during your next visit to Knoxville! The Tennessean does not disappoint!
WHERE WE ATE
Stock and Barrel: We had Friday night dinner here and it was nice enough for us to be able to sit outside! I ordered the veggie burger which I loved because yes, it was yummy, but also because it was named The Deadhead (and we’re all deadheads in my family!). While there was a wait here, it worked out perfectly because we were able to walk around Market Square while we waited to receive a text once our table was ready!
Status Dough: I pretty much only wanted to go here because of how cute the name is! The donuts did not disappoint though and I’m drooling just thinking about this one! We met our blogger friend, Madison, here – it’s a great spot to grab a coffee with friends or study at!
The Plaid Apron: We had our Saturday breakfast here! It was a nice way to start the day and oddly enough, I even loved the drive to the restaurant! The GPS took us through a beautiful little neighborhood with really pretty houses!
Cruze Farm Ice Cream: If you take anything from this blog post, go to Cruze Farm Ice Cream. Honestly, it’s worth an entire trip to Knoxville just to have this ice cream. I couldn’t believe how amazing it was – it could’ve been the best I’ve ever had!! Plus they had the option to add glitter… can it get any better than that?!
WHAT WE DID
Every day, we ended up walking around Market Square where we ate, shopped, and enjoyed the nice weather! I’m a bit jealous that we don’t have something similar to this in Charleston! It was fun to people watch and see the kids playing in the fountains. Right near Market Square is Strong Alley that is full of really cool and colorful graffiti. I definitely recommend taking a stroll through here!
As a graduate of an SEC school, I really wanted to see the University of Tennessee’s campus. Lucky for us, one of the shuttle drivers from The Tennessean is a current student at UT and gave us a tour! It’s a beautiful campus (not as beautiful as Alabama, of course, *wink wink*) and has these really fun stairs that we had to get a picture at!
