Where to Stay in Charleston: Southern Shangri-La

I love traveling to new cities, but there’s nothing I love more than a good staycation! It gives me an excuse to be a tourist in my own city, treat myself, and try new restaurants that I normally wouldn’t go to. Southern Shangri-La has been on the top of my staycation list so I was over the moon excited to be able to have a little sleepover a couple of weeks ago! This is definitely one of the prettiest Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed in! I’ve driven by this building more times than I can count and I never knew this beautiful oasis with the coolest tiger mural was right on the other side!

First and foremost, this charming little Airbnb is in the perfect location. Centered in the Elliotborough-Cannonborough neighborhood, it is right around the corner from some of my favorite places including Cannonborough Collective, Five Loaves, Sugar Bakeshop, and Brown’s Court Bakery. It’s also just a quick stroll away from King Street!

There are four different units to choose from at Southern Shangri-La and we stayed in unit D! The first thing that caught my eye was all of the postcards hanging on the wall (pictured below) which is actually their version of a guest book! I loved this idea so much and made sure to sign one! Another feature I loved was their event calendar in the kitchen for the month! Tourists can really experience Charleston like a local and see what’s going on around town during their stay. There were so many little touches here and there that really made this place stand out! You can definitely tell the owners, Sydney and Will (who were so incredibly accommodating!), really put a lot of thought into the decor and truly making this space feel like home.

As you can see, this spot is also a plant ladies heaven! Everywhere you look there’s a new gorgeous plant! I was envious of how their plants are thriving and growing and definitely took some notes for my own plants that haven’t been doing too well thanks to all of my recent travels.

I really slept like a baby during my stay and didn’t want it to end! I’ve already been recommending this place left and right to friends visiting and have my mind on my next visit! Whether you’re visiting or looking for a relaxing weekend right down the street, check out Southern Shangri-La and you will not be disappointed!

    I cannot get enough of the bright, bohemian decor! They definitely knew what they were doing when they decorated this unique space. The concept of a postcard wall as a “guestbook” of sorts is so cool and creative, and can we just talk about the mural outside? Super fun! This makes me want to visit so badly!

    Okay, this place is adorable!! I am actually due for a trip to Charleston, it’s been about 2 years since I’ve gone. It definitely has the best food!
