To say 2018 was busy would be an understatement. I found my voice, began traveling for my blog, started a new job, put so much time and effort into hillheady.com, and spent my first full year in Charleston making new friends and exploring my favorite city. I can’t say I’m happy to see 2018 go – it was a good one! But it’s time to focus on 2019.
Because I am a planner, to help me prepare for 2019, I’m focusing on the below three ways to reset for the new year:
- Reflect – As the year comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what made me happiest throughout 2018. Also, who was I happiest around? This year, I came to the realization that I am in charge of my own life and I don’t have to surround myself with negative energy if I don’t want to. It’s time to further invest in me and how I can improve me.
- Set Goals – I won’t lie, I set a few pretty unrealistic goals for myself and 2018. And to be honest, it didn’t feel too good when I realized I wouldn’t be achieving them after working hard all year. Therefore, I’m not only going to reflect on the previous 12 months but also go ahead and make these 2018 goals my goals for 2019. I figured it’s best not to trash them just yet, but set newer smaller goals once these are achieved. 2018 wasn’t a complete blow so I’m evaluating how I was successful and what exactly contributed to my failures. What will I do differently this time around?
- Make Space – Last but certainly not least, it’s time to declutter. I can’t tell you how great I feel after cleaning my room and starting fresh. However, I somehow accumulated a whole lot of stuff this year. As hard as it is for me (I’m a bit of a hoarder), I need to part ways with some things. I waste a lot of time picking up after myself throughout the year so maybe if I have fewer things I can narrow down this time (yes, that is a glimpse into my thought process).
Now it’s time to kick 2019’s ass! Here’s to new beginnings and new opportunities! How are you prepping for 2019? Let me know in the comments below!

Such a beauty! Also need to declutter my space ASAP — such a great way to kick off the year. I’m also trying to keep up the momentum from 2018 instead of sulking during the holiday blues time period!
